Since the 37th post covered the first weekend of August, the upcoming series of posts cover what The Tauz has been up to in the blazing heat of the subsequent weeks and weekends that were August 2007.
Morning of August 8th: Joshua and the Wall of Tape-icho
At work, we needed to free up some shelf real estate for incoming tapes for the new shows coming to syndication this fall. Therefore, we purged our storage shelves of old, useless beta tapes and piled them on the floor, out of the way until we could haul them out to the dumpster later. We had an assload of tapes to get rid. There was a football game airing that night, which meant that our dearest Anna would have little work to do during her shift, and a ton of time to do it in. We joked that she could build a fort out of the tapes.
Take a wild guess whose office space was walled off by a magnificent piece of hilarious handiwork that night...
That's right. It's mine. Here's my boss, Dave, giving his perfunctory "I'm A Department Head So Technically I Have To Disapprove Of This" Face.
I walked in to work the next morning and there it was. A prank worthy of the Junior Counselors on Retreat. A thing of beauty and irreverence. Loved it... but how would I do any work?? I found a way.

Witmer reacts to the new addition in pantomime:
And I put on my most outrageous French accent and taunt some silly English kuh-nigits:
After we (Joe and the Joe-ettes) had our fun with it, we realized that we couldn't just let adorable little Anna get away with this scot-free, eh? No. We had to be prank back, for that is Prank Law. But what to do....what to do....?
We devised and carried out a classic counter-prank: the old Huh? What On Earth Are You Talking About? Prank. We all acted like we'd never seen the work of art she (and Tanzi) had erected. Heh... erected. We told anyone who asked us about it that we'd not seen it. They were terribly disappointed. It was great for us. And we kept up the charade for more than a full day, too. It even got to the point that Boss Dave started feeling sorry for poor little Anna, and was shocked that we hadn't let her off the hook yet. So finally, the day after we told Anna that we had never seen her Wonderful Wall of Betas, we finally broke down and showed her our photos and the videos we took of it.
You may be thinking..."But, The Tauz, didn't you have to tear down that wall before this beloved Anna of yours came in to see that it had, indeed, been experienced by you, the victim of her ingenious feat of mischief?" Well put, Tauz Blaug Faithful. (You speak so eloquently!) We did have to deconstruct it, and its demolition was superbly enjoyable. We knew it would be, and so we took video of it. And because we are television nerds, we took it from two angles. Here is one:
...and the other:
And so a great story for the ages was born.

Weekend of August 10 - 12: The S.(H.)I.T. Hits The Tauz
Eep (college roommate, a.k.a. the "I" in the S.H.I.T. House boys) came down for an awesome visit the weekend after my Jersey trip. Seeing as this was a No Real Reason Trip, we mostly spent most of the daylight hours either sleeping or doing nothing exciting. We sure as hell made up for it at night, tho. Saturday we went to Lancaster to meet up with our mutual former roommate, Stoner (the "S" in S.H.I.T. House) and our buds Neil and Kevin Traister. As a Power Fivesome, we endured 23 grueling (and highly entertaining) holes of mini-golf out in Amish country. After we battled our way through the course, we grabbed some drinks and rested at the concession area. We also "took in" some local culture:
From the golf course, Eep and I boogied on up to Kathleen's place in Harrisburg for the tail end of her big ol' party. Got to see Jackie her guy Tim, as well as Kevin Flynn and Tony Creeren (sp?). We chilled there for a bit and conversed. Then KK decided to take the shin-dig downtown. Eep and I went along, had a drink and headed home at closing time.
Being the sober one, Eep took the controls of The Tauzmobile while I sat shotgun, comfortably buzzed. On the way home, with me being bad at directions in the first place, and Eep not knowing the territory, we accidentally ended up on 81...
After a hasty and fully legal u-turn, our journey home took a mere 30 minutes longer than it should have. Upon arriving back at The Tauz Pad, we stayed up and commiserated and talked like best buds do... til like, 5:30am. The perfect cap to a great weekend with one of my closest friends.
Next time: I link Africa, Wisconsin, NYC, and Pittsburgh, The Fish and Sanjaya together all in one weekend!!
