Controversy!!!

A couple of weeks ago I'm walking up the stairs in my apartment and it's about 11pm on a Tuesday when my cell phone rings unexpectedly. I'm even more surprised to see that it's my friend from the good ol' days at Susky High. I cannot use her whole name on The Blaug, so she will heretofore be known simply as "GAK".

Important Note:This is NOT to be confused with my mom, who sometimes refers to herself as GAKT, which is all of her initials, including her maiden name.

Now, I'd recently spent a weekend with GAK and a few other friends here in York, so this call wasn't totally out of nowhere, but it did seem a bit odd at first, coming late at night in the middle of the week. But as she started talking to me, it became clear that she was distressed, and that her call was not about any recent weekend fun we'd had.

She asked me if I could remove her name from a previous entry on The Tauz Blaug, before she got fired.

That's right, folks! I almost got a friend of mine fired. But at least I didn't shove this female friend of mine into any solid metal objects.

She needed me to censor the entry (now-edited and re-published) about my 27th Birthday Parties because she's a teacher, and I guess teachers are not allowed to have social lives in this day and age.

Turns out one of her students was bored or something and Googled her name and guess what showed up on the second page of results? Some skinny dude's ramblings about how much fun he had with his friends and family on his birthday. Unfortunately for GAK, she was among those friends, and that skinny dude used her full name, and Blogger is a part of the Google network. And... seeing as how we were enjoying Adult Beverages at one of these parties, the student's opinion of GAK was immediately ruined. The student, in turn emailed the administration of GAK's school. The administration then held a meeting with its teachers and told them to make sure their online presences were safeguarded against students' Wandering Keyboards. Hence the panicky phone call. Ugh. Nice one, The Tauz.

So anyways... it sucks, but I self-censored an entry, for the sake of my friend, to whom I can't even give a proper shout-out, now. =^(

In conclusion, I say "Booo!" to you, kid who had too much time on their hands. Go Google yourself next time. Or at least look up porn like a normal kid.

Sheesh! Kids these days...

That was one of the biggest problems I had about being a teacher. We are adults and can participate in adult activities. I hated being constantly judged about what I was doing in my own time that I really became unhappy. Way to go people...you almost lost another good teacher in the public schools. Maybe she will get fed up with it like I did and just say "Fuck Off!" It is liberating.
